African Music Anthology

Lusafrica launches a series of compilations on modern African music. The 1st volume is entitled « AFRICAN GUITARS ANTHOLOGY ».

Over 150 years, guitar has come to play an essential role in modern African music. From north to south of the great continent, guitarists have developed diverse, rich techniques and sounds exclusive to their part of the world.

This album presents solo guitarists Tcheka, Boubacar Traoré, Wendo Kolosoy, Idrissa Soumaoro & Ali Farka Touré, etc, along with others who provide the musical background for star performers. They include Betinho Feijó (who accompanies Bonga), Louis Mhlanga (playing with the Mahotella Queens) and the ex-Kaloum Star, Mamadou MC Camara (who works with Sia Tolno and Mamadou Barry).
